Sayulita, a small cobblestone streeted town, in the west coast province of Nayarit is hardly a hidden gem. Quite frankly it's gringo nation with Mexico flare for authenticity sake - but, sometimes the comfort of safety and all the finer things helps you relax into your time away that much more.
Here are some of the most stops from a recent last minute get away...
There are several options for surfing in the Sayulita area, several require a car, but any taxi can drive you. Sayulita is typically best for longboarding but you can find great waves for both long and short boarding at La Lancha and Banderas. Feeling adventurous? Look into driving to Chacala and hiring a boat.
Rent a board from Jose at Surf N' Roll. He has a variety of long and short boards to choose from.
Tired from paddling? Tired from too many margaritas? go to Nirvanna spa, ask for Rosie's sports massage. I've had massages at some amazing spas around the globe and this was by far the best sports massage I have ever had, when Rosie finished I asked her if we could extend the 90 minute massage 30 minutes longer! Just go do it. Walk-ins welcome and so cheap!
Yup, you're on vacation. The margarita's in this town are off the charts.
Stop at Atico on your way home from a sunset surf at Sayulita Beach. Drink classic Margaritas with hibiscus salt rims in your swimsuit on their swinging bar.
Spend your evening with Victor, bartender extraordinaire, at Escondido. Just off from the town square Victor serves up a mean Tequila old fashioned and has an amazing Mezcal tasting!
Superfood Breakfast Bowls & Juices at Orangy
Eat breakfast at Tierra Viva with amazing sautéed vegetable scrambles with chorizo and delicious Jugo Verde.
Enjoy Coco Frios from all of the street vendors
Eat street tacos at all hours of the day from any and all taco stands.
